FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What day and time do you offer classes?

During the school year- we offer classes Monday-Saturday at numerous times each day to fit most schedules. The class choices would depend on which class is best suited for your child’s age and experience.  During the summer months- we offer classes Monday through Thursdays as we are closed on the weekends in the summer.

  • When and how can I register for classes?

You can register for classes anytime we have an open space available. The cost would be prorated to reflect how many classes are left in the month.  You can register online via our website www.southshoregymnasticsacademy.com

  • What is the cost for classes?

The cost slightly varies and depends on the level and length of the class.  We do not charge a registration fee!

  • When can you start?

Our school year program (Sept-June) is broken into monthly payments. You can enroll anytime though-there is no need to wait for a new month to start!  Our summer program (July-August) runs like a session, but you can still enroll at any time as long as there is space in the class.

  • What age can a child start classes?

Our classes start at 18 months and can go up in age to 12+ years old.

  • What do they wear on their first day of classes?

We do not have a required dress code. We recommend students wear what makes them comfortable providing it is not too baggy or have buttons/zippers or skirts.  Students can wear a leotard or shorts/ leggings and a t-shirt/tank top.  Long hair should be up in a ponytail. No dangly jewelry is allowed, and they go in barefoot (no tights or socks).  Our one restriction we have is that we do not allow sports bras or crop tops-the students’ mid-sections need to be covered for safety reasons on the equipment. We have a great pro-shop with lots of great gymnastics apparel items right here on site!

  • What classes do you offer for boys?

Some of our classes are co-ed.  Our Super Stars and Friends, Star Hoppers and Jr Ninja. Our Gym Star classes are suited for either boys or girls, but-we focus on the girls’ gymnastics events and we do not have boy's gymnastics equipment. If you have a school aged boy who is interested in gymnastics, please contact our office and we can talk through your situation and make a recommendation for an appropriate program.

  • Do you offer any events for non-members?

Yes, anyone can enroll for our special events-open gyms, clinics, and special Parent’s Nights Out/Movie Nights.  Non-members will need a signed waiver to participate and be able to go in the gym & need to pay the non-member price.  The waiver is a legal document so it must be signed by the legal parent/guardian.  A babysitter, grandparent, aunt, uncle etc. is not allowed to sign the waiver.  Our special events have online enrollment available through our website.

  • Should I inform the gym about my child’s health/medical issues?

Yes.  The more information we have about a student the better we can get to know them- which allows us to individualize their instruction.  The information you provide to us will help us ensure that your student is in the class best suited for them and allows our coaches to make the class a great experience for your child.

  • If my child is sent home or stays home from school, should I send her to class?

Our policy at any time is not to send a student to class if they have been ill that day or within the last 24 hours.  We require that you wait at least 24 hours after the symptoms have gone away to return to SSGA.  This includes waiting 24 hours after the fever/ symptoms subside (while not on any type of medication), after they have vomited or have conjunctivitis or any other contagious ailments.

Please read and keep informed of our COVID policies listed on our website.

  • What do I do if I’m late for my class?

When you come in, stop at the front desk and someone from the office will walk you into class when you’re ready.

  • If my personal schedule changes, do you give financial credit in lieu of doing a make-up class?

No, we do not offer financial credits or refunds for missed classes for any reason.  We will also work with our customers to transfer a student to another class on a different day and/or time, based on availability.  We do ask for a 30 day drop notice for all of our programs.

  • Is my child in the right class?

We would want to ask their coach this question since they work with them each week.  We do want parents to know that the gym has 3 different challenging levels of curriculum for each event in each class.  Example: If a student achieves a skill but the rest of the class has not, then that child can be challenged with a new skill within the same class.

  • When will my child move up to the next level class?

Throughout the school year, our lesson plans progress with the students, just like school!  As the year goes on, our curriculum gets more challenging to accommodate the student’s improvements!

  • When will my child learn a cartwheel?

Every child learns differently and at a different pace. We teach skills by using a part to whole method. We break down the skill into each of its components and work drills to help students gain all the building blocks needed to complete the skill. Our coaches will work with each student to ensure every student achieves all their goals!

  • When will my daughter make a competition team? Can my child have a meaningful gymnastics experience if they are not on a competition team?

Not every child is suited for the commitment of a competitive team.  Students can still get so MANY benefits from the sport of gymnastics without ever competing!  We do offer many different types of competitive teams for many different ability levels and commitment interests.  Please contact our office if you are interested in having your child evaluated for our Team program.

  • Do you offer Free Trials?

We do not offer free trials.  Instead, we offer a 14-day money back guarantee.  If you are not happy with your child’s class, please see the office and we will try to help.  If the issue cannot be resolved and you want to withdraw within 14 days, we will refund your money in full!  We found this to be a better policy- especially for the younger students-sometimes they need a few classes under their belt to become comfortable!

  • What is your Make Up Class policy?

You are allowed 1 make up per month. Student must be currently enrolled to schedule a make up class and will be based on availability. There are no substitutes or refunds for missed classes. If you unenroll, the missed classes will not be refunded and become null and voided, even if you enroll at a later date.

  • Do you offer refunds or credits if my child misses class due to illness or the need to quarantine?

No, we do not offer financial credits or refunds for missed classes for any reason.
